How the session runs

Forty five minutes and three models. We start at sixty yards, because that is where a ball shows what it does, and finish with the driver, which is where most people start and why most people get it wrong.

Spin off a full wedge, flight into a breeze, feel off the putter face. You leave knowing which sleeve to buy for the season rather than which one happened to be on offer.

    Wedge first

    Ten shots from sixty yards with each model. What the ball does on the second bounce tells you more than the launch numbers do.

    Mid iron, into the wind

    Flight, peak height, and how much the ball stands up when the wind gets underneath it.

  3. 03

    Driver last

    Only once the short game has voted. If two models are level by then, the drive breaks the tie.

    The putter face

    Feel is the one number we cannot print. You roll all three on the same mat and tell us.

Book it if

  • You play whatever is in the boot that week
  • You lose more strokes inside a hundred yards than off the tee
  • Your speed has dropped and the ball has not moved with it

If you lose six balls a round, play the cheapest thing that flies and come back when you have stopped.

We call to confirm the slot. Nothing is charged online, and your number is used for that call and nothing else. What we keep.
